Mental Health Awareness Program

On October 4, 2026, Physicians for Social Responsibility Nepal (PSRN) – Student Chapter, BPKIHS, conducted a mental health awareness program at Panbari Chowk, Dharan Ward No. 6. The main theme of the program was mental illness, its impact on individuals and society, and the importance of appropriate treatment and support for people experiencing mental health problems. The awareness program was conducted from approximately 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A total of approximately 30–35 people from the local community participated in the program, along with 21 members from the PSRN Student Chapter, BPKIHS. The main activity of the program was a drama presentation conducted by Batch 25 and Batch 26, under the leadership of Batch 25. The drama focused on the importance of mental health in society and highlighted how mental health problems are often ignored or misunderstood. It also portrayed the common tendency to seek superstitious or traditional practices, such as visiting dhami-jhakri or using jhar-phuk, before seeking appropriate medical care. The program emphasized that individuals experiencing mental health problems should receive proper evaluation and treatment from qualified healthcare professionals. The target audience primarily included adults experiencing stress related to work, family, and daily life, which can contribute to mental health problems and changes in behaviour. The main message conveyed was that mental health is as important as physical health, yet it is frequently overlooked in society. The audience responded positively to the drama and found the presentation meaningful and informative. Senior citizens who watched the performance provided a summary of the message and offered suggestions regarding the presentation. The Ward Officer also watched the drama, appreciated the initiative, and suggested that the same awareness drama could be presented in schools to reach a wider audience. The program was successfully completed with active participation from the PSRN members and the local community. Special thanks to Batch 25 and Batch 26 and the Management Committee for their valuable effort, dedication, and contribution toward the successful completion of the program.
